Woodland Management

The following sections give guidance on managening native woodlands, restoring ancient woodlland, Planted ancient woodland sites and plantations in County Durham.

Further Information

The Forestry Commission publish guidance on woodland management as part of the UK Forestry Standard (UKFS), and in the form of detailed Practice Guides on different aspects of woodland management, many of which can be downloaded from the Forestry Commission website.

Forestry Commission England also provides support for the management of woodlands through grant aid, and grant-aided schemes are required to meet the criteria set out in the UKFS. Information on the use of the UKFS and the process of certification of sustainably managed woodlands is given in The UK Woodland Assurance Scheme Guide to Certification which can be downloaded form the Forestry Commission.
